Aplopus jamaicensis* (Drury 1773)
PSG No.214.
Origin of culture stock: Jamaica
*formerly known as Diapherodes jamaicensis
|
Sub Family: Cladomorphinae Foodplant in captivity: Eucalyptus spp. and/ or Hypericum spp. Humidity requirements: Initially I kept my A. jamaicensis nymphs in an all-net cage, but this resulted a low survival rate. I therefore moved them to a glass tank that has a door of plastic netting, and have so far observed no more deaths. I lightly mist the leaves approximately three times a week. Comment: Another really beautiful species. The adult males, measuring approximately 7cm in length, have delicate red-tinged hindwings; they frequently use these to flutter away to distances of up to 1 metre. The adult females (approximately 12-13 cm in length) also have red-coloured hindwings, but these are too small for flying and are used only to startled predators. |
