Carausius sp.
PSG No. 230.
Origin of culture stock: Philippines
|
Sub Family: Lonchodinae Foodplant in captivity: Bramble, hawthorn. Humidity requirements: I keep in a glass tank with a plastic mesh lid, and lightly spray the leaves on a nightly basis. Comment: I am very, very fond of this species. The young nymphs are all an attractive dark-green colour, with white-tipped antennae. Adult females are more or less completely green, and measure approximately 12 cm in length. The males are the more attractive sex: measuring approximately 8-9 cm, they have a brown body and nicely contrasting green legs. Observation: despite the fact that I keep this species in a nicely spacious cage, all of the insects tend to cling to the lid and not the meshed sides or the plants inside, causing the tank to always appear a little overcrowded! I spoke with Tiffany Cham who told me that it was Andy Maluche who first starting rearing this species, which was found at Bobon, Northern Samar. Thank you to Tiffany and Andy - this is one of my most favourite ever species! Defence tactics: Mainly camouflage. |
