Eurycnema versirubra  (Audinet-Serville, 1838)

PSG No. 28

Origin of culture stock: West Malaysia

Sub Family: Phasmatinae

Foodplant in captivity: I used Eucalyptus (they tend to prefer species with hair-free leaves), though I have read that oak, guava, acacia and even bramble can be used.

Comment: I have kind of failed in the rearing of this species - of the 12 ova that I had, only 3 hatched, and of these only one actually accepted food.  I kept the nymph on top of a heating mat in a small plastic tub with netting on top.  I sprayed daily and handled the insect minimally.  Nonetheless it died after approximately 2 months, having never moulted beyond the first instar.

I shall of course like to try this species again in the future, and would appreciate any advice on how to culture such a phasmid.
