Prisomera sp.

PSG no. 232

Origin of culture stock: Philippines

Sub Family: Lonchodinae

Foodplant in captivity:  Bramble, hawthorn, rose.

Humidity requirements:  I think the species likes a fairly airy environment.

Comment:  Another nice easy-to-rear species, Prisomera sp 232 is relatively new to the PSG species list.  The adult female has a light brown-coloured body, with dark tubercles over the thorax.  Her most noticeable feature is the set of short white diagonal stripes on the sides of her thorax, with matching horizontal patches over the front two pairs of legs.  She also has a faint small triangular marking on the 5th abdominal segment.  The adult male doesn't really have any distinguishable features, looking very similar to males of many other Lonchodinae such as P. cornucervi and various Lonchodes spp

Body length of adult female: ~ 9 cm Body length of adult male: ~ 6.5 to 7cm.

I spoke with Tiffany Cham who told me that it was Andy Maluche who first starting rearing this species, which was found on Panay Island.  Tiffany says that when she was rearing them, she did not see them eat anything other than ferns.
